Elephants...A Sunset...and Expo '86?

More pictures from Livingstone....

This was one of my favorite commands. They would say "Salute" and all the elephants would lift their leg up to salute us!

Me and the baby elephant. She is only 19 months old and she would just follow us wherever we would go.

This is after we were all done, they were taking the herd to go eat. Notice the baby running to catch up? So cute!

As we were leaving the elephant riding place, there was an amazing sunset.. God is so great!

On the Friday we were there, we were so tired and frustrated trying to find a child that we had spent half the day looking for. As we were getting ready to end our day, I saw this kid wearing an Expo '86 Vancouver Shirt. Although I was not a part of expo, it made me feel happy... it made my day... Its home! If Im not mistaken, my mom was pregnant with me during expo! There we go! The funny thing is that I look a lot happier than that kid... oh well... I had fun! Enjoy!

Elephant Riding!!!!

When we were in Livingstone we took the once in a lifetime opportunity to ride on an elephant! It was so much fun. Our elephant, named Mandinda, love to dance! He would sway back and forth and we would have to hold on tight!!!

This is me sitting on the elephant. We rode right along the river...it was gorgeous!

This is me feeding Mandinda... I just couldn't feed him fast enough!

Kimmer and I siting on Mandinda's legs. A little scary at first, but a lot of fun!

Victoria Falls

This is the view from the bridge that borders Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Kimmer and I with the falls in the background... look how high the water sprays up from the falls. We were drenched from head to toe by that mist! It was incredible!

This is after we walked to the end of the viewing points and back... Wet!!!!!

A glimpse of the falls... they are so big that we couldn't even see the whole thing!

This is Kimmer and I before we walked to the end of the view points. We are dry here... not for long!

Victoria Falls

This is my putting my hands into the mighty Zambezi River. You can see the drop off of Victoria Falls right behind me.

Me near the edge of the falls.. Don't Fall!

A beautiful rainbow dancing in the mist from the falls.

Operation Christmas Child

Before heading to Livingstone, we went and picked up 200 Christmas Boxes for our sponsored orphans as well as for the children in My Fathers House. It gave me butterflies in my stomach when we were unloading them all into the house. We make these boxes back home and now they are here! We will be giving them out in the next month or two... I can't wait to see the kids faces!!!!

Heading to Livingstone.... Finally!

Not much new the last few days. I spent all of last week in bed sick. I have had another stomach bug that I am still getting over. Yesterday we took a relaxing day of just lounging around, doing minimal work. We went to see Mission Impossible 3 last night. It was good to get out of the house and enjoy our time together! And yes.... we do have a movie theatre here! Lusaka is a very modern city! This morning on the way to church we were badly rearended. It was quite scary. Our landcruiser is fine but the other car's hood was totally smashed in. We have also had a lot of theft in our office. A camera, a cell phone and a good chunk of money has been stolen. We have our suspecions of who it is, but we arent accusing him. The devil is trying to attack us right now as we are making head way for Bible Camps as well as Orphan Sunday in October. We just have to stand our ground and not let him get in our way. God is on our side and the battle is already won! This week should be good as we are heading to Livingstone to do the case files for our 18 sponsored orphans there and then we are going to take time to be tourists, something we have yet to do here. We were supposed to head there last Friday, but since I was sick, we didn't. I am looking forward to going there as we get to see the Falls as well as go elephant riding. Should be a blast! That is all for now... sorry for the boring post but not much going on right now. I will post again after Livingstone and hopefully post some pics! Take Care everyone... 4.5 weeks left!

Musonda Falls and a Runaway Boy

Okay.. OKay.. So I am alive from the dead. Last week we went to Musonda Falls to prepare for our Bible Camp that will be held in August. How do you describe what went on there? It was incredible. The first day was a bit difficult to get the interpreters to get comfortable and we even had to ask two of them to leave because one didnt have the heart to serve and one had very little baby which just wouldnt work at camp. The second day was a complete change. The came so prepared having read the Bible stories over and over. They were on fired and so prepared to get to work. They were so enthusiatic about everything. The people there are amazing in themselves. The atomosphere in that small town is just so full of love and joy. My favorite part is the pastor there. He is the most humble person that I have ever met. I found out that he and his wife can't have children. This burden of his is translated into joy and love for the orphans of his church. He has taken all of those children as his own and would do anything for them. This is shown especially with the camp we are having. He would call us every few weeks just to ask if we were coming to the camp. It would be so much harder to not have the camp, then to have it. It is going to be amazing and I feel so blessed to be able to have the chance to come back for it.

Another fun thing that happened there is that we got to slaughter a goat, bought at a cheap price of about 40$ and then we got to slice it up and eat it. It was soo good! I actually didnt get to see the slaughtering happen, but I saw pictures of it and it looked cool.

Right before we left for Musonda Falls we found out that one of the boys, George, from my Fathers House Orphan Home #1 has been running away. When we got home, we found out that he ran away again, so he has been living with us for a few days which has been interesting, seeing that I have to get up at 5:30 am to get him ready for school. Not my cup of tea getting up so early, but it has been fine.

Yesterday I was sick again with a stomach bug, but today I am feeling much better. Praise God! It is no fun being so sick away from home, but soon enough, in just 5 weeks, I will be boarding a plane for home. It feels so surreal that I am actually heading home. It is so bitter sweet though. I cant wait to see my friends and family when I get home but I also have all my friends and family here that I will miss so much.

That is about all the latest news from here. We are hoping to head to Livingstone on Friday where we will do some tourist stuff, and then we will do the case files for the sponsored orphans in the beginning of next week.

Okay... Until next time!!!!
