A very Merry Belated Christmas to you all!
It doesn't feel like Christmas at all down here. I spent Christmas eve working, then all my coworkers headed to the pub, so I joined them. I left after a few minutes because 1. I feel awkward being in those type of places, especially when I don't know anyone that well and 2. people kept spilling drinks on me accidentally, so I said forget it, I'm going home.
On Christmas Day, I slept in then headed to work for a 12 hour shift. It was a really long day but everyone seemed to be in good spirits. There were two things that saddened me though on Christmas. One was that everyone around me kept complaining that they had to wait until that night to open presents with there family. I didn't get to have that at all. The second thing was that while I was serving dinner, we noticed two cops chasing a guy down the street. We (my coworkers and some guests) were chuckling because we thought it was funny that he was getting arrested on Christmas. What we later found out is that the cops were actually trying to save his life. He was suicidal.
It was a reminder to me that the holidays are not always a happy time for everyone. Some people are far away from there families, whether that be in distance or in relationships.
The holidays this year quite honestly didn't mean much to me. I worked, I was alone, it was just another day.
I was lucky that I was able to talk to my family on their Christmas (since I am a day ahead here). It is weird because when talking to them, they feel close by, but then I realized I'm on the other side of the world. It is quite bizzare.
Well.. thats my update for now! I am working lots these days. I had yesterday off so I went to the beach and swam. Won't ever be able to do that around Christmas again!!!

New Address
Well... I got the keys to my new place today and will be heading there shortly! It is going to be so nice to unpack my bags for once! My own place for 6 months, its going to be wonderful!!!
One of the guys that I work with here is from Vancouver and we got to spend some time together yesterday. I cant begin to tell you how good it feels to have a conversation with a person after being alone for so long! He is helping me move today as well since he has a van. It will be a good day!!
The other evening I was walking along the beach, taking some photos and I felt a peace just overflow me. It was like God was telling me that everything was going to be okay and that this is exactly where he wants me. Walking back to my place, I felt the impulse to turn around. So, I turn around and there was a beautiful double rainbow in the sky. It was beautiful! It was in that moment that I believed God that everything would work out just fine. I feel so at peace here now, its awesome.
Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers as I am on this journey alone down here. I can't thank you enough!!

First Day of Work
Last night was my first day of work here in my new town. They put me into the fine dining restaurant to start and it was a pretty scary thought to me since at my other job, I just bring food out instead of take orders and everything.
After the first couple arrived, I knew I would be fine. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. One of my tables had a couple celebrating their 30th anniversary. They were so sweet and the gentleman had been to Vancouver a few years ago so that got us chatting. It was a really fun night. There was only 3 chefs working and 3 of us so we were busy, but it was good.
At the end of the night my supervisor asked if I would stay at the fine dining restaurant to work instead of going to one of the other restaurants. She even told me that I wouldn't need much training! That was good to hear since I had never done fine dining in my life. Not a bad start...
In other things.. moving to a small town where you know no one has been a bit of a challenge. Since I cant move into my place I have been living in a hotel and its just uncomfortable to not have your own space to call home. When reality hits, it hits hard. I know the 6 months will fly by. I can't complain too much though. The view from my work is of a long stretch of beach that is nearly empty of people. I saw a dolphin in the bay yesterday too. I'm going to be living around the corner from my work and everything is at my fingertips. Once I have everything together and settled in, I think things will go a lot easier. I don't know how I'm going to keep myself busy on my days off, but I'll figure it out in time.
That's all for now... hopefully I will update some more pictures soon. I know posts can be boring without pictures.

Bugs
Another quick post... sorry! When I find a good chunk of time to write more, I will.
I am not in Port Stephens which is a few hours north of Sydney. I arrived here two nights ago and am staying in this hotel that has a lot of character. Last night, I spent about 2 hours hunting and killing all of the crickets that decided to keep me awake by singing and jumping on me. Man, I was not a happy camper. I am getting good at killing them though.
I found a place to live and I move in on Monday. It is a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen and living room and its fully furnished. Perfect for me!! I wish I could move in earlier, but such is life.
I start work this afternoon and it will be good to keep busy again, let alone see a paycheck. Its been a while for sure.
I am going to be working at Shoal Bay Resort and Spa. Google it, its beautiful. The town is so small and opposite of Sydney, but I think I will like it here a lot. The only thing that concerns me is finding a church to call home. I have a feeling that this will be more difficult to find.
That's all for now! Im off to get ready for work and probably kill some more bugs. I don't like bugs!!!

Work!!
I had a longer post ready to go, but that will have to wait for now as I dont have much time on this computer.
I just thought I would let you all know that I got a job working at the resort that I was originally supposed to! I start work next week which means I have to pack up and move out of Sydney in the next few days. It will suck to have to leave the city, but at the same time, I am ready for the next step in my Aussie adventure!!

Back in Sydney
Here are some pictures since I have been back in Syndey
First off, a little story to go with the pictures. Jen, who I met on the Contiki tour, and myself got a job working at a motorbike show over the weekend. We worked selling a product that waterproofs leather. It was so boring, but it was work, so we put up with it. On the Saturday we were told that we could go for free Harley rides. Why not!? So, on our break, we went out and got to ride around Olympic Park. The show was held at the Olympic Park which was cool in itself because we got to walk around the venues that held the 2000 Summer Olympics. The Harley ride was awesome!
We decided on Friday that we would head downtown Sydney to see if we could watch the Australian Idol Finale that was going on on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. Tonight we got down there and there was no way that we would be able to see anything because it was all gated off and you needed a ticket to get in. We were kind of bumbed out, but it was all good. At that point a man walked up to us and handed us two extra tickets that he happened to have. So, in we went! We kind of felt silly since we had no idea who any of the contestants were. Needless to say, it ended up being a great show! It rained off and on, but it was bearable.
My favorite moment was when the top 12 contestants along with a choir and full orchestra, sang Viva la Vida by Coldplay. This being one of my favorite songs, I was pretty excited. On top of that, when it got near the end of the song, loads of fireworks went off behind the Opera House. It was a beautiful moment between the fireworks, singing, orchestra, and of course, a great Coldplay song.

Job Update
Okay, so when I went for my interview, it was actually an open interview and there were many people there. Most of them immigrants not speaking much english, then I chuckled to myself and realized that I am too an immigrant, at least shortterm. The HR Rep told us all what they were looking for and based on that alone, half the room cleared out of people. Next, she told us what she was looking for. I didn't quite fit the requirements, but I talked to her anyways. She got my to fill out an application and she looked over my resume. She loved my resume and told me that if the interviews that she had today didn't work out, she would call me as early as tomorrow to arrange something.
So, I don't feel defeated and continue to pray that she will give me a call and that a job will come through here.
One job that I really wanted didn't work out only because I don't have the right visa, otherwise he said that he probably would have hired me! Oh well... I continue to pray that God will provide and I trust He will.

Update
Wow... what a ride the last few days have been.
Since coming back to Sydney life has been a whirlwind once again.
I have learned more about God and grown closer to Him in the last week that I have since being in Africa. The reality of me being away from home for a year hit me really hard, on top of the fact that there were only bad news coming from back home. Needless to say the first few days here were filled with my tears and prayers.
One thing that has hit me is that even though I have friends down here, ut is down to me and God. Him and I. This is more comforting that I ever thought it could be. I have been so blessed to have Kira open up her home to me for a few weeks and this is just one of the ways God is providing for me.
As some of you know, the original job that I came here for, fell through. I haven't heard from my workplace so I kind of gave up on that idea. I feel that God is calling me to stay in Sydney. I have friends here and a solid church family. I am falling in love more and more with this city and it feels so right to be here. So, I have started job hunting here and as of today, I also found a place to live at least until February. I will still look for a place to carry me after that, but for now, it will do. I am rooming with 3 girls from Hillsong which will be a great foundation for me to continue to grow. I am so blessed.
For now, its back to job hunting. I don't like the process and find it exhausting and frustrating, but I know that God will provide a job for me. Everything will work out, because God called me here for a purpose that I do not know, but look forward to learning, even if I don't find out what it is until I return to Vancouver.
Well... I'm off to the young adult service here at Hillsong. Life is good.

Sydney
Well.. the holidays are over and I am not back in Sydney. I am staying at Kiras house until I get my work stuff sorted. Hopefully I will be working by the end of the week. Its pouring rain and it is kind of a comfort from home.
Yesterday I had to say goodbye to Kim and it was tougher than I thought it was going to be. She is my best friend and I love her to pieces. It will be hard to be away from her for a year, but I know that they year will fly by and soon enough I will get to see her again.
I tried uploading some pictures on to here, but it doesnt seem to want to work. For those of you who have me on facebook, I posted them there. I will try again on my blog when I have some time.
Now I'm off to run some errands. Hope all is well!

Post #200 from Cairns
Wow...
Yesterday we got to go snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef. The trip there was rough and left me at the back of the boat leaning over the railings, but in the end, it was all worth it and I would do it again.
I did a snorkel tour and got to see many colourful fish, including Nemo, a 80 year old clam that was the size of a small car, and the highlight was playing with the sea turtles. They were hanging out with the scuba divers, but they came up for air and I got to feed them and play with them. It was awesome!
Today is the last day of our tour which is hard to believe because I felt like we just met them all. We became a small family and its hard to see all of us go our separate ways. One is on her way back home to South Africa while another guy is on a plane back to Afghanistan to fight for our country.
Thats all for now. Kim and I are just hanging out for the next few days then I will head back to Sydney.

Blessed
Where to begin! Warning.... this might be a long post since it has been a few days and I have done and seen so much!
Okay.. so after the farm we headed to Airlie Beach (which is beautiful fyi) and boarded the Condor, the ship that we would be sailing on for the next few days. We rushed to get everything sorted and were out of the harbour before we new what bunk we were going to sleep on.
We cruised a long for a little while then we hoisted the sails. What a rush! We sailed into the sunset and it left me breathless and in awe of God and how amazing He is. We anchored for the night and then the heavens opened up and it poured rain! This made us all head to bed by 9:30.
We were up the next morning around 5:30 and were sailing soon after 7:00. (Yes Mom, I really get up early over here!) The winds were strong and brought us into a harbour around 11:00am. This was the awesome part. We took the smalled motor boat to shore and walked up to the view point where we overlooked Whitehaven beach. The beach feels like you are walking on baking flour as it is so fine. Bliss. We got to hang out at the beach for a few hours. There were some shallow areas and we got to swim with the reef sharks and the sting rays! It was awesome!!!
From there we headed back to the boat when it decided to downpour again. I was on the second boat which meant I was drenched by the time we got back to Condor. The first group was nice and dry. On the way we got to see a huge sea turtle so I guess it made up for it in the end. :)
We continued to sail on to the next location which was another highlight. We got to go snorkelling and see some beautiful coral and fish. It is so hard to believe that there is a whole other world underneath the sea.
We set anchor that night and the weather played in our favour and stayed beautiful. We got to watch the sunset once again and marvel at the stars. What a great night.
The next morning we didn't think there would be enough wind but there was so we sailed. Before we sailed we got to go snorkelling again at a different location which wasn't as great, but still cool. We just ended up doing flips and dives off the boat instead. :)
We arrived at our resort by lunch time and said our goodbyes to the crew. Our resort was beautiful! There was several pools, glorious beaches, and good company. It made for a great night to say the least.
Yesterday we headed to Cairns which was a 9 hour drive in the bus. That sucked, but I took some gravol and slept most of the way like I usually do. When we got in last night we got settled and went for a swim at one of the three pools here. (Life is rough, I know)After that we all got dressed up and headed out to do pub crawl. Let's just say that the night was highly entertaining for me as I stayed sober and everyone else was drunk. Good times for sure.
This morning Kim and I took a scenic train up to the town of Kuranda up in the rainforest. It is a cute little town and we had fun looking through the markets. We also went to a butterfly sanctuary which was beautiful. We had huge butterflies landing on our backs and everything. Now, we are just hanging out and will probably go for a swim.
Sorry this is so long.... Im almost done. I realize how blessed I am to be having this whole experience down here in Australia and I want everyone to know that I don't take one minute for granted. I am in awe of God's power, especially through creation. I have seen koalas, kangaroos, exotic birds, humpback whales, dolphins, sharks, millions of fish, sea turtles, and so many other amazing creatures all in the wild. Tomorrow I am snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef. I would be crazy if I didn't see Gods craftmanship in everything down here. It is hard to put into words what the last few days have brought me. Many mixed emotions and the primary one is happiness. Someone once told me that happiness is circumstantial and joy is a lifestyle. I feel both immensly right now in my life and there is only one thing that I can say:
I AM BLESSED

The Farm
After leaving Fraser Island, we were on our way to a farm out in the middle of no where. It is a cattle farm and for extra income, the family invites tourists like us to come and learn more about the agriculture world in Australia. This farm as 3,500 beef cattle amoung other animals. The farm is also 160,000 acres so they use an airplane to get around the farm so time is not wasted. Pretty cool I thought.
We got there and got to have a tractor ride around the farm and learned more about the whole farming process. After this we had a great home cooked meal consisting of roast beef, potatoes and vegetables. What a nice treat and a subtle reminder of home.
After this we all got dressed into our halloween costumes as we were having our party that night since we will be sailing tomorrow, which is halloween. Once we were all ready to go, we were taken outside and were taught how to crack a whip. The guy made it look so easy! I tried it and as a result I have a large welt on my back to go along with my sunburn... my poor back!!!!
Once that was all said and done it was time to party and party we did. There was dancing, the limbo, and best of all, karaoke! We had a blast and I even got up there and rocked it out to some Backstreet Boys. Overall, it was a great night full of fun.
Today we got up early and hopped on the bus to head to Airlie Beach where in just an hour or so we will get on our sailboat where I will be sailing for the next few days through the Whitsunday Islands. I am stoked about this. This will be our first glimpses of the Great Barrier Reef (although not the best part of the reef) and we get to go snorkling as well. It should be a lot of fun.
Well... Im off to pick up a few things before we board our vessel.
It will be a good few days before I have computer access, so if you don't hear from me, thats why!

Hey All!
A quick one today....
We are on Fraser Island and it is beautiful! We just had a great dinner after watching the sun set. Life is rough.
We did a day tour around the island, swimming in Lake Mackenizie which makes your hair silky smooth and drove 100km/hr along 75 Mile Beach. I also had the chance to go one a 7 passenger airplane on a tour of the island. From the air, I got to see a humpback whale and a shark, Lake Mackenzie, 75 Mile Beach... everything!!!
It was so awesome and I recommend it to everyone if you are ever on this part of the world.
Tomorrow we head back to the mainland... for now, I'm off to do some dancing just like last night! What a fun group we have!

Surfers Paradise
Can you say party town? We took the train into Surfers Paradise from Brisbane yesterday morning to go to our hotel to meet our tour group that we will be with for the next 12 days. We got to the hotel and found out that because of the Indy Racing going on, we would not be staying at the hotel. So, we waited around for several hours until we had to meet with our group. It took us some time to find them because all of the major roads were closed down, but we did! I think everyone that we saw on the street (which was thousands) were all drunk which made it akward for us at times. We had our big packs on so we stuck out quite good.
We met our group and they are great! We are on a bus with 22 other young adults, 11 which are from Canada. We have BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontarion, and Newfoundland represented. Pretty good! There is one guy who lives in Surrey too! Small world for sure. In total, we represent 5 different continents which is pretty awesome too. We are diverse, but all get along well. The whole group besides us are at the comedy theatre right now.. not really our thing as there is a lot of crued humour, so we decided to stay back and do some laundry and just chill out.
Today we spent the day at the beach. The weather was hot and beautiful. As a result, thanks do my dutch genes, I burnt real bad. It kind of stings a little but I'll survive. A great day none the less.

We met our group and they are great! We are on a bus with 22 other young adults, 11 which are from Canada. We have BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontarion, and Newfoundland represented. Pretty good! Brisbane
Greetings from Brisbane!
Today was an awesome day... we got an early start and headed to the Australia Zoo, which is owned and operated by the Irwin family. Our bus driver was actually really good friends with Steve Irwin, so we got to hear some neat stories about this life, and watch a bio on him as well.
There was so much to see at the zoo. We started by watching the croc show.... crocs are pretty cool! We got to pet Koalas and Kangaroos, saw tigers, elephants, emus, dingoes, everything you can imagine. It was a lot of fun and made for a great day. The weather was also a comfortable 24 degrees which was the icing on the cake.
I really want to upload some pictures, but every computer that I try doing it on won't work. Oh well.
Tomorrow I am heading to Surfers Paradies where we meet up with a tour group that we will be with for the next 12 days. It will be nice to not have to plan anything anymore and just relax on the beautiful beaches they have down here, something we have yet to do. Tomorrow I am also getting a cell phone (hopefully) so if you want my number, you can just send me and email or facebook message if I have you on there. My email is lagroot@hotmail.com.

The Red Center
Well, I am now in Alice Springs in the middle of no where. Yesterday we flew in from Melbourne and headed into Kings Canyon which was about a 4.5 hour drive. The only change in scenary was the dead animals on the side of the road and the lines in the middle. Yes, it was that boring. We saw many kangaroos, a camel, cows, and other creatures, all of which were dead on the side of the road. We did see one alive Kangaroo as we almost hit it and we saw some emus, although they were behind a fence. Such is life I guess!
We walked part of Kings Canyon last night and watched the sunset over the desert. This morning we got up and back in the car for a 4 hour drive to Ayers Rock. It was beautiful! It is 9km around the base and we drove around it taking pictures where we were allowed to. I picked up some aborignal art work to hang in my room back home :)
From there we made the long trek back to Alice Springs (another 4-5 hours) where we settled into our hotel and here I am! We bought a Bon Jovi cd at a gas station and Im pretty sure it saved us from extreme boredom as there is no radio reception!
It was a lot of fun but we are glad to be done all of the driving. Tomorrow we fly to Brisbane where we are for two nights before we head down to Surfers Paradise. It will be nice to get back to the coast! Side note... it was 40 degrees out today! Too hot for sure.

Melbourne
Well, it is 6:51am and I am currently sitting in the airport awaiting a flight to Alice Springs.
We arrived in Melbourne on Sunday night, got our rental car, and headed to our hostel. Once settled in we went and found some dinner and resisted all the wonderful shops along the way. We were in bed early as we had a long day ahead of us on Monday.
Monday morning we were out on the open road to Great Ocean Road. About an hour into we both had the feeling that something wasnt right, so we pulled over at a gas station to ask if we were going in the right direction. Needless to say we had gone the wrong way, so we got back on the highway once again.
Great Ocean Road is beautiful!!! We stopped at Bell's Beach, a long stretch of beach completly secluded. After that we had lunch in Apollo Bay before heading back out on the road. We ended up at the 12 Apostles (check it out online, its beautiful) around 5:30pm, which left us to drive the long way back in the dark. It is much like the Sea to Sky highway back home, but the views are ten times better.
I'm hoping to post pictures at our next stop which is Alice Springs. Actually, we are flying into Alice Springs and then renting a car to drive to Kings Canyon where we will spend the night. Tomorrow morning we will make our way to Ayers Rock and back to Alice Springs tomorrow night as we have an early flight on Thursday morning to Brisbane.
We are going through each city so fast, but we don't have another option considering how many different places we want to see. Once Saturday comes along, we will be with a tour group for 12 days which will leave all of the planning out of our hands!!!!

Goodbye Sydney, Hello Melbourne
Well, our time in Sydney has come to an end.
Yesterday we spent a great day up in the Blue Mountains where we saw the Three Sisters rock formation and Leura Falls. We decided to hike from one to the other and it ended up being a 2.5 hour hike, but it was well worth it once we arrived at the falls. They were beautiful!
It took 3 hours each way to get there but it was worth it. A great trip for sure! Last night we just layed low and watched a movie. We are having a lazy morning here before we have to head to the airport to head to Melbourne.
We are only in Melbourne for 2 nights and from there we head to Alice Springs/Ayers Rock. Tomorrow we are driving the Great Ocean Road which we are excited about because we have heard it is just beautiful. I'm a little nervous about driving, but it should all work out. I did learn how to drive this way, so I'm hoping it will all come back to me!

Update from Sydney
Greetings from Sydney!!!
The weather here is beautiful and I am loving it!!!
Kim and I are currently staying with a friend of ours Kira which is great. Wednesday night we went to Kira's young adult service and then headed into town with some of her friends where we got to take our first look at the Sydney Harbour Bridge and then the Opera House. They are gorgeous and it was so awesome to see them at night.
Thursday we slept in and then headed back into the same direction as the night before. We sat on the steps of the Opera House and ate our lunch and after lunch we climbed the bridge! I felt like I was on top of the world and I have some sweet pictures from that too. We had to buy them as you are not allowed to take an cameras up there with us. Definitly a day to remember.
Last night Kira had some friends over and we watched a movie and had chocolate fondue. :) It was late to bed, but well worth it.
Today we got started a little earlier and we went up the Sydney Skytower and got a 360 degree view of the city which was beautiful as well. After that we had lunch on the harbour and then headed out of town to Bondai beach. The weather here is great and it was the perfect weather to do some suntanning... and by suntanning, I mean sun burning. Got to love being so white!!
Tomorrow we are off to go see the Blue Mountains which will be a long day trip, but I think it will be well worth it.

Safe in Australia
Hey Guys!
So after 24 hours of flying, we have arrived safe and sound in Sydney! The flights were good despite their length. Tomorrow we are going to lay low, meet up with a friend from highschool, and maybe do a little exploring!

Leaving on a Jet Plane
Don't know when I'll be back again!!!
Well the time has come for me to pack my bags and get on board a Boeing 777-300. I am in the middle of packing even though I leave for the airport in just 5 hours. Wow... that is a little scary to say!
I don't really know what emotion to feel. It still doesn't feel real, but I know it will hit me once I am on the airplane and that is when I will have a breakdown. Same drill as when I went to Africa.
Yesterday was Matthew and Chantelle's wedding and it was beautiful! The weather was awesome and I think everyone really had a good time.
Time to sign off... I hope to update if I have time in Honk Kong during our lay over!

Saying Goodbye
It's hard to believe that Kim and I started planning our trip well over 7 months ago and after cutting the corners of my day planner week after week, I am down to one last week before I go to Australia.
Someone asked me when it would hit me that I am moving away for a year. I honestly don't know when it will happen, but when I went to Africa, it was about an hour into my flight. That's when the tears came.
I have started to say my goodbyes and I think it is going only get harder. Last week I said goodbye to everyone at BC Place that I work with. Yesterday afternoon Elly and I went out for lunch to say goodbye. Today I said goodbye to Kim's dad and brother Kirk. This evening I said goodbye to my old neighbors. The goodbyes are only going to get more frequent as the week progresses on.
I was standing at work last night when it was slow and it hit me that I am really going to miss my work place. My job isn't glamorous and it is filled with so much drama you would think we were on the set of Days of Our Lives, but I still love it and everyone I work with. Luckily, my last night on Wednesday is a busy one, so most of my coworkers should be there. There will be lots of hugs and hopefully not too many tears.
The last of the goodbyes will come on Saturday and Sunday from close family and friends and ultimately at the airport before I head through the gates, not too look back. I have a return flight and good intentions of coming home. Will it happen when planned? Maybe not.
I know Australia is where God wants me to be in this chapter of my life. I know that He has something amazing planned for me and I am excited to slowly unwrap this gift He has given me.
I am blessed.

Quick Post
I am currently at the library since our computer crashed at home. Makes you really appreciate what you have at your convenience!
So I leave for Australia next weekend. Time has just flown by and it still really hasnt hit me that I am moving away for about a year. I have started to slowly pack as I want to have it mostly done before my brothers wedding next weekend. Needless to say, between working lots, trying to get things organized for my trip, and my brothers wedding, things are busy!

My visa was approved after I had a little set back in my application! I had to go have a chest x-ray done in order to rule out TB since I spent more than 3 months in Africa a couple of years ago. I went to the doctor and they told me I didn't need a refferal. I went to the x-ray clinic and they told me I did, so I walked across the street to the walk-in clinic, go a refferal, waited at the x-ray place again, got it done, and had it mailed off to Ottawa.
The process was not supposed to be that long, but low and behold, I can legally enter and work in Australia! Just over 3 weeks and I am gone... yikes!

They say they want to implement change, they hire someone to do so who would do an exceptional job, then they run and hide in the corner and pretend they never wanted this change.
Our company needs an overhaul. With the media moving in already in June 2009 for the Olympics, this overhaul needs to be done sooner than later. I am heading off, but when I return, I hope to see change, and if I don't, I will try my best to get management out of hiding and see how great our company can really be.

31 Days and Counting...
Wow... it feels like so long ago that Kim and I decided to head to Australia and now it is just over 4 weeks to go! I have a lot to do before I go but I know it will all get done. I feel more and more confident in this decision to go that ever before and am very grateful for that.
Life. Things have been good for me. I have been learning a lot about life and God lately and continue to grow daily. I thankful for many things in my life, but my friends especially right now. There have been some interesting transitions going on in some friendships lately. Where there has been room for potential conflicts, only happiness fills that space. Man am I blessed. Things are not always easy and I don't expect them to be, but God has shown me the purpose in situations where I had not seen it before.
Some thoughts that have been in my head lately were stemmed from listening to the radio in the early mornings at work. (Too early if you ask me!) The Beat played an interview with Gary Chapman, the author of a book called The Five Love Languages. I have heard of this book before and what it is all about, but it was really interesting to hear the author speak about it. It made my try to figure out what my love language is. The five that he talks about are physical touch, quality time, words of affirmation, giving of gifts, and service (giving of time). I know which ones aren't my love language, but I have a hard time defining one that would be my love language. Will keep thinking about this...

Ashley and Erik's Wedding
Kim and I headed out on Saturday evening to Stanwood. I think we left Kim's house around 6. We headed to the Sumas border, there was no line, things were looking great. We were told by both Ashley and mapquest that it should take about an hour and a half to get to Stanwood, so we estimated that we would be there between 7:30-8:00. Ashley had emailed me directions to the camp that we were going to be staying at for the night with her, so Kim could do her hair there in the morning. I had also printed directions to the farm, where the wedding was going to be held.
So Kim and I arrived in Stanwood close to 8:00pm. We followed Ashley's directions but made the mistake of thinking that we were supposed to be at the farm where the wedding was. (We confused farm and camp and thought it was all the same thing). So we drove by the camp twice, and headed back into town because we couldn't find our location. We asked for directions and we ended up at the farm where the wedding was going to be. Great, but where are the cabins? So we kept on driving down the road, turned around, went back to the farm and decided to pray because it was our last option of finding where we needed to go, although we should have tried it a little earlier on. All of a sudden it hit me (an answered prayer by God) that the camp we drove past before was where we needed to be. So back to the other side of town we headed and eventually found Ashley and Erik.. well, I guess Ashley found us since she was running down the road after us in her bare feet.
Needless to say, after 4 hours of driving around, we ended up where we needed to be and now know our way around Stanwood pretty well.
Ashley and Erik's wedding was a beautiful day and I was so blessed to be able to see them begin their new life together. They are an amazing and inspirational couple and I am thankful for them in my life. I wish them nothing by the best in the years to come.

Kim's Baptism
On Sunday, Kim got baptized and it was great to witness this next step in her life. I was really glad to have my new camera so that I could take some shots. I put together a small scrapbook for her with little messages from her friends and I was glad when she opened it and loved it. Now I just have to add the pictures from the day and it will be complete!
I am leaving for Australia in 53 days. Wowsers!!!! I feel excited and stressed all at once. There is a lot to take care of here at home before I go and there are a lot of unknowns awaiting me there! This should be fun.... I know it is where God wants me in this next step in my life and I am thankful for that. It is really the only thing that is comforting me right now.
Ashley is getting married this weekend and I am so excited for her and Erik. They are a wonderful couple and I'm happy to be able to share in this day.

New Toy
I bought a new camera today. I was wanting to get one before I went to Australia so I can take some sweet pictures and thought I would get one now as there are some special events coming up soon.
Kimberly is getting baptized on Sunday, Ashley and Erik getting married the following Sunday, Joel and Kortni getting married in early September and Matthew and Chantelle are getting married in mid-October. Lots going on! Its a good busy.
The convention centre is starting to pick up again and I am thankful for this. Also.. at the end of the week, I will be back down to three jobs! As the teachers are going back to school my summer job comes to an end. Its been good to keep me busy, but I don't think I could ever stand working in an office. I never get lost in my work like I should sometimes in order to get things done.
Last week I worked a long day! I left the house at 8am on Friday morning and came home at 4am on Saturday morning. Working three jobs in one day is not fun. About 16 hours of work and 4 hours of travel time. Ridiculous I tell you. I have finally caught up on my sleep.
Anyways... here are some pictures that I took in the garden today with my new camera.

At Peace
With so much going on lately between my sisters recent wedding, working four jobs, and everything else that life throws at you, I have become very overwhelmed recently.
I am house sitting right now and I think it has been good for me to get out of the house for a little while to find peace in my life again. I have definitly found that peace and sit here calmly and well rested. I was just so emotionally, physically, and spiritually exhausted from everything going on. Much better now!
Tomorrow I am going to go to a different church. As much as I love the community at my church now, I don't feel like it is meeting my spiritual needs which is really too bad. So, tomorrow I will try something new and see how it goes.
Thats the update for now. Nothing exciting. The neighbor kids are selling lemonade and it reminded me of when I used to seel Koolaid every summer with my best friend. So, I went over there and bought a glass. It tasted like water, but the kids are precious.
Let the good times roll.

Dora
Normally when I know that I am going to be taking the First Ave exit off of Hwy 1, I often make sure I have some extra snacks or some spare change with me as there is always a person in need at the light just off the exit.
Today was no exception. There was a lady with only two front teeth holding a sign that read "My name is Dora and I am in need. Anything helps." So with that, I prayed that the light would turn red so I could help her out. The light turned red and I pulled out my purse and managed to give her about $2.00 in change.
Thats all normal, right? Well, let me tell you I have never seen someone so excited to receive anything. It was like a child running down the stairs on Christmas morning and unwrapping the gift they always wanted. She was so sweet and couldn't stop thanking me. When the light turned green she yelled to me to have a great weekend.
Another thing that I observed is that when all the cars stopped at the light, she never went to a single car window to ask for anything. She simply and humbly waited until someone would roll down their window and call her over. If only I could humble myself like her what I have needs to be met.
As I drove away, I wondered why people give to the homeless. Is it out of guilt? Compassion? Why did I give Dora some loose change? Because she is a child of God just like me. If I can't take care of a sister in need simply by giving a few coins to her, what kind of Christian am I?

Weddings
It is 5 days until my sisters wedding and my head is spinning. If I let my mind stop being stimulated for more than a minute and calendar pops up in my head and all the things I still have to do are scrambling around in my head. I have written, lost, and rewritten many to-do lists but it doesnt help seeing it on paper.
I had two days off over the weekend after working 12 days straight. Boy am I glad those days are over! They were long days, but I must say I am thankful that I am working as much as I can.
Yesterday I went to Corteo by Cirque Du Soleil and it was fabulous. I think that I like Mystere in Vegas better. It is nice to see a show that has a permanent structure allowing for more variety. I plan to see as many of these shows over the years as I love them and feel inspired after I watch one. It is nice having a sister in Vegas so I can stay for free, allowing me to go to the shows!
Thats all for now...I will post some wedding pictures after the weekend!

End of June
Wow... already into July.
It is just over two weeks until my sister's wedding and things are going good. She flies into town tomorrow and then the madness begins.
I've been taking it easy lately and its been enjoyable. Our Monday night volleyball has become a lot better with added players, that are really good and great company. On Monday night there was no volleyball because of the holiday so we decided to go to the drive-in movie theater instead. I had never been, so I thought, why not? We went and had a lot of fun, but I got home at 5am then head to be at work for 9. I think next time I will go when I don't have to work the next day! It was definitely weird watching the sun go down and then rise again from the same spot and not sleeping!
I have started my job at Surrey Christian for the summer and am enjoying it so far. It's quiet and slow, but a nice change from my normal job which involves a lot of running around with up to 3000 people in attendance.
Thats really that is new. Once the wedding comes and goes I will post pictures of that.
Hope you are enjoying the nice weather... tomorrow its supposed to be thunderstorms. My favorite :)

Where Does the Time Go???
Hard to believe that we have hit mid-June. What is harder to believe is that it is freezing outside. Well, maybe it's not so hard to believe. It is Vancouver we are talking about.
Update.. well I live a boring life so I don't have much to write about.
My sister was here all of last week and we got many things checked off of the wedding to-do list. It was a busy week for sure but we now feel like are on top of all the planning. Lets hope it is sunny on July 19! I have also started swimming again. A year and a half ago I became a regular swimmer and really enjoyed it. I stopped when I started going to college and now I have picked it up again. It's a good workout.
I've been thinking about my high school graduation a lot lately since we have many grads going on at work right now. Can't believe that it is three years ago already! Some of the grads that were at my workplace were very immature and it led me to ask myself if we were that immature in grade 12. I don't think we were as bad as these ones but I guess I just want to believe that we were better than that. We all have our moments I'm sure.
It's late now and I should be in bed. Goodnight!

Australia...Here I come!
Today Kim and I booked our flights to Australia! It is exciting and terrifying all at the same time. I know that this is where I am supposed to be going. It just feels right. I was supposed to go to the UK last year, but it didn't feel right like it does now. Yay!!!!
I fly out October 13 in the early morning. I will be tired after a long weekend with my brothers wedding and such. Who cares if I am tired? I am going to Australia! My return date is not yet set, but it appears that it will be September-October '09.
For now, its time to work and save money for the trip and get all the fine details sorted out. A lot of work but worth it all.
I love traveling.

Mid-May
Wow.. two posts in the same month. This hasn't happened in a while!
First off.. I think God has a good sense of humour. Things have been happening in my life that were unexpected but welcomed with a smile. Kim (Schroeder) and myself have spent many times letting our minds wonder and just end up laughing at ourselves because of it. Why is it when you are finally content with a situation, it changes? This is why I think God has a good sense of humour. Sorry I can't elaborate more!
Today is a beautiful day. Its days like this that I wish my van had air conditioning.
There really isn't anything new with me. Come July I will be officially employed at four different jobs. Downtown at the convention center where I have been since September, BC Place working the BC Lions games and sadly not the Madonna concert since I will be in Australia. I am also back at Carlton Cards when the previous two jobs are slow. Most likely I will also be working at Fraser Valley for the summer doing some office work and giving tours of both FVC and SCS. I'm sure that will bring back a lot of memories! And will all of that I still find days to babysitt four boys. A busy life I lead!
On top of those jobs I am helping my sister and brother plan their weddings, more so my sister though since her and her fiance live in Vegas. DefinitelyA turning me off weddings for a while! A destination wedding sounds good right about now for me... not anytime soon though.

Early May
I am currently next door to my old house in Burnaby. The twins are asleep and its time to wind down. We had a fun filled day. Went to the mall, went swimming, then had dinner at their grandparents house. Their idea of a multi-course meal? Starting with meat, cheese, and fruit, then onto soup, then lasagna, but wait.. thats just the beginning! Then we had veal with cheese and mushrooms on it, steak, salad, carrots, and two kinds of cake along with a fruit plate for desert. I ate way too much!
I also ran into my old neighbor. Good to briefly catch up. I may go over there tomorrow to see the rest of his family.
Babysitting all weekend long has taught me that I am not ready anytime soon for children. I have also always wanted to have a set of multiples (call me crazy) but I am second guessing that as well. Luckily, the twins are 7 and pretty independant.
This week will be busy at work. There is so much scandal that goes on in my workplace and it gets frustrating, but its work that I need to have. If we had good management our company could truly be exceptional, but our management sucks, therefore all of the not so good employees stick around and the hardworking, knowledgable ones are leaving us. It really sucks because I am friends with the latter. It is good to have coworkers who have the same work ethic as yourself!
Changing topics... I have five weddings from July-October. I love weddings therefore I am very excited for these to happen! All of them are pretty much in town except for my cousin who is getting married in Prince George. Road trip? I think so!
Enough of an update for now.. sorry my life is so uneventful! Wait until mid-October than you can hear all about my Australian adventures!

Geographical Pilgrimages

I found this quote in a book in Chapters. I like this quote. The book was about a man, who following an oil spill in San Fransisco, packed his things and starting walking. He walked for 27 years and didn't speak for 22 of those years. Can you imagine not speaking for 22 years! That would be more than my life up to this point.
I only read the back of the book and briefly flipped through it. There was a map of where he all walked (and boated). He walked all across the US, including Alaska I believe, ended up on the east coast where he then took a boat into the Carribean. He then walked across Cuba and another country before heading to Brazil. He ended up walking from Brazil to the tip of South America then boated across to Antarctica. That my friend is a lot of walking. He did this all to take a stand against pollution since he saw how the oil spill in San Fransisco affected everything.
Enough blabbing. I hope to one day do something similar to him but with less walking and in a shorter period of time. My last two continents to check off my list will be South America and Antarctica which I will do in one shot in a few years. Can't wait for that but first things first.

I found this quote in a book in Chapters. I like this quote. The book was about a man, who following an oil spill in San Fransisco, packed his things and starting walking. He walked for 27 years and didn't speak for 22 of those years. Can you imagine not speaking for 22 years! That would be more than my life up to this point.
I only read the back of the book and briefly flipped through it. There was a map of where he all walked (and boated). He walked all across the US, including Alaska I believe, ended up on the east coast where he then took a boat into the Carribean. He then walked across Cuba and another country before heading to Brazil. He ended up walking from Brazil to the tip of South America then boated across to Antarctica. I suck at blogging
I suck at this. I never update. I usually never know what to write or what people want to know about me and my life. Please those who still stop by here, tell me what you to hear!
My parents have been in South America since the beginning of March so I have had the house to myself which for the most part has been good. It's quiet but bearable. Matthew comes home on Thursday night which makes me happy. My parents come home next week. I guess I should enjoy this peace and quiet while it still lasts.
I am going to Australia and am very excited about it! I wrote about it on my facebook but will regurgitate on here so you know what the latest is.
I am heading to Australia in mid-October after Matthew and Chantelle's wedding. Here is the game plan. Kim and I are planning on traveling for about 4 weeks all around.
Sydney-Melbourne-Brisbane and surrounding areas-Cairns-Alice Springs-Sydney for me and Kim will continue on to Perth to visit her good friends Jeremy and Shari.
My plan is to start working after we are done our traveling. I have been looking at a resort in a small town on the beach about two hours north-east of Sydney. I hope to work for about a year before continuing on my travels.
I am hoping to get an around the world plane ticket so that after I am done in Australia I can head to New Zealand for a few weeks. Providing I enough time, money, and a traveling partner, I hope to go to China before heading back home. Now, I hope to be home before the 2010 Olympics but I am not going to rush home if I have the opportunity to travel elsewhere.
I feel like I am in the perfect time of my life to do this traveling. I have no commitments here in Vancouver. I'm single, out of school, and have a job that would take me back after all of my time away. Why not?
The main drive behind my desire to travel? Besides the basics of seeing the world, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people, when I was in high school we had the wonderful privilege (haha) of building a CAPP portfolio. In this we had to set our goals there is only a few on there that I actually want to accomplish.
The big one for me is seeing all 7 continents before I am 30. Three down, two pending, then only 2 more to go which will be done in the same trip. Fulfilling goals is a great feeling.
That is my near future plan in a nutshell. Of course.. I am leaving this all in God's hands and if He calls me elsewhere or wants me to stay in Vancouver, I will do that, but maybe not without a fight :)
So that is the latest news here. Will try and blog more often!

New Adventures and Many Thoughts
There has been some firsts lately.
Got a new job in the fall.
That job lead to another job.
I made some new friends.
Tried Japanese food. Liked most of it.
I think keeping this trend going is a good idea, therefore new travel plans are in the making. Kim and I are planning on traveling Australia sometime after Matthew and Chantelle's wedding in October. When Kim boards the plane home, I will remain in Australia to work for a year, potentially more. I feel the need to once again take a risk by jumping on a plane and going to a foreign land.
Do you ever wonder what makes you really happy? The one thing that no matter what is going on around you, will make you stop and smile. Not even make you happy, something that brings you sheer joy.
What about something that makes you think? A lady whom I don't know approached me at Missions Fest while I was waiting for a co-worker friend to come join me listen to the Watoto Children's Choir. She started telling me her story. Her daughter has lost two out of her three children at the age of one month old to a rare hereditary disease. She is devastated, crushed, watching her daughter mourn time and time again. I told her that I was sorry for her loss and hope her daughter could continue to find peace in God. Then, she smiled and walked away. Thats all. She just walked up to me, told me her story, I briefly responded, and she walked away. Why, I don't know nor do I think it matters. It made me think though.
Wonder why God puts certain people in your life? Why you say yes to something when you want to say no? Why you are at that place in that moment?
These are questions that I love to ponder. I love to think about these things... not in search of an answer, but in search of what it brings to my life and how I choose to respond.

Las Vegas
Pictures from Vegas....
Kristen and I had a thought of fun on our trip and now she has settled in now calling Las Vegas home. She will be back for her wedding here in July, but after that, who knows!
Matthew and Chantelle are engaged as well so I am keeping busy with wedding planning and work!
I am hoping to do another large trip in the fall so planning for that is beginning!
There really isn't much to update. Sorry!
