Out With the Old, In With the New

Back in May/June (I can't quite remember) I applied for a job at Peppers, another local resort as an assistant food and beverage manager. I had a good interview and she told me that I was her number one candidate and the job was 99% mine. Great! Or so I thought..

We went on our overseas trip for 6 weeks and when I returned I had a second interview with the general manager to confirm my position. Well, the GM decided the other candidate was better and overruled the food and beverage managers decision so I didn't get the job.

I was upset at first but if it wasn't meant to be, it wasn't meant to be. I continued to plug away at Shoal Bay Resort where I currently was. I do love the people I work with but I felt like there was no room for me to grow within that company and I was getting bored.

I applied for a job at a local golf course and didn't get the position I was hoping for, but I was hired as a casual to work my way up into something more as their company expanded. For the time being, I was planning on working two jobs.

Just two days before I was supposed to start at the golf course, I got a call from the food and beverage manager at Peppers who told me she had a supervisor position opened and she wanted to offer the job to me before she posted the job publicly. Barney and I discussed it and the next day I accepted the job!

I gave Shoal Bay one weeks notice and tonight is my last shift there! I'm so happy to be starting something new that will keep my mind active so I don't get bored. I'm also really sad to be leaving my current job. I love the people I work with there and have formed some great friendships. We even had our wedding reception there! Thankfully it's still close by and I can also pop in to say hello.

And the best part? My commute has gone from 12 minutes (one way) to just 3 minutes! (Sorry all you city folks!) Got to love a quick commute :)

So change is happening around here and I'm excited to start a new adventure!!

Days Like These

It's one of these kind of days....



....curled up in bed, reading a magazine and cuddling with my pup.

It's been raining and cold for days so we've been having a lot of days like this. I should enjoy them because soon enough we will be in the middle of another heat wave.

I have some news to share but it will have to wait until next week! (And no, our family is not growing) :)

A Stary Night

With the new warm weather comes evenings of storms. Last night did not disappoint. We weren't tired so we climbed out of bed at 1am to check it out.

I have tried many times to photograph lightning but its hard!

Here are the best shots I got last night. No lightning bolts, just lit up clouds.

A Small Reminder

I had to stop and let a kangaroo cross the road yesterday morning and had to do the same on my drive home last night for a koala!

Just a small reminder that I live in Australia.

Our Holiday

We had a friends wedding to go to yesterday so we decided to take a week off and have a little holiday. Barney's parents live just outside of beautiful Byron Bay so we decided to go stay there for a few days before heading south to the wedding.

It took us about 9 hours to get to Byron Bay. We travelled with Jessie so we had to make a few extra stops for her!

We spent the days relaxing at the beach, walking Jessie, exploring the unique shops in Byron and spending time with Barney's family.

After leaving Byron Bay we headed south about 7 hours to a small town called Harrington where our friends were getting married the following day. We took Jessie to Crowdy Head Beach where she could run off the leash.

After the beach, we headed to Inspirations, the best local restaurant (so we were told). They didn't disappoint! We had a beautiful meal while the sunset before us. Bliss!

We finished our trip with Shane and Michelle's beautiful riverside wedding. They had about 40 guests which made for an intimate wedding. After their first dance and cake cutting, we went back on to the lawn where the ceremony was and the skies lit up with fireworks! It was a great way to end the evening. Did I mention they have been together for 13 years? She was very happy to finally get her wedding day!

Overall, we had a great week. We were relaxed, well fed and had a great time with family and friends.

Mini Holiday

I am off to Byron Bay tomorrow to visit Barney's parents then head down the coast from there for a friends wedding!

I am so glad to have a week off and get away. Just in time before the summer rush at work :)

Venting....

I need to vent!

I love dogs but I don't always love dog owners...

Barney and I took Jessie to the off leash dog beach today for a walk. Jessie is very social and 'says hi' to all the dogs and goes on her happy way.

Today, two dogs just turned on her and ganged up on her. They were growling, barking and biting at Jessies neck. Not nice.

The dogs were on leashes but no one was holding the ends so we told the owners to get a hold of there dogs and get them away from Jessie. These people were hopeless at controlling their aggressive dogs. Jessie kept trying to get away but the one dog just kept going at her.

We had a few choice words for the owners as they struggled to control their dogs. If your dogs are aggressive in nature and you can't control them then leave them at home or walk them on a leash somewhere else!

They got mad at us for not having Jessie on a leash but it isn't required there. If Jessie was an aggressive dog, we would not take her there, but she's far from it.

When we were were making our way back, the lady had taken the dogs off the beach and the old man told us in broken english, to watch our mouths or he would brush them for us. I couldn't help but laugh.

I feel better now... thanks for listening :)
