Black and Blue
I've enjoyed my day off today, only doing minimal work around the house. Can't let nothing get done!
Barney, Jessie and I went out to Boat Harbour, one of my favorite places to go. When we first arrived Barney heard what sounded like black cockatoos and after a little searching, we found them! They are a rare bird around here and they are usually found in threes. They are very shy birds so we had to hold Jessie back and sneak up on them but we managed to get a few pictures.
Once we got down to the waters edge, we noticed there were heaps of bluebottle jellyfish around. I've never been stung and I hope never to be because I hear it hurts pretty bad.
Just as we were leaving a huge wave came and splashed Barney since he was too close the the waters edge. Very funny.
And that was my day off! I got called into work but by the time I got to my phone (I was walking Jessie and doing yardwork) it was too late to go. Bummer ;) Now to watch TV and relax with my pup :)

Overwhelmed
Wow.... today was overwhelming even thought I was so relaxed.
I had today off of work so we did some yardwork than headed to the beach for a while. It was the temperature, the breeze and the smells that got to me most.
It felt like a Canadian summer afternoon. Even just stepping outside tonight I could hear the frogs and everything reminded me of home. I felt like I was camping again in Osoyoos like I did when I was little. The temperature is comfortable, the air is still now and its very peaceful outside.
It makes me miss home and all the memories that were created there with close family and friends. I miss you guys...

New Addition
Every week in the Examiner, our local paper, they advertise an animal that needs to go to a good home for different reasons.
This little Kelpie caught our eye, so Barney and I are deciding if we want to get another pup. This guy is 2 months old and looks just like our little Jessie.
We still want to do more traveling and such before starting a family of our own (that doesn't consist of dogs!) but it would be a lot more difficult to do so with two dogs. We've been blessed with friends who have looked after Jessie before but asking someone to watch two dogs is another story. This is the only real thing stopping us from adopting this little guy. We would love to give him a good home.
This is random, but I brought my car to the mechanic to get checked and when I picked it up, there was this coin in the car. The mechanic must have found it in the car. A 1924 copper penny, about the size of a Canadian looney. They don't even have pennies here anymore. I'll have to add it to my collection of old coins I have.
And to finish this off, the vet called an we got Jessie's test results back. The lump she got removed was benign and had no signs of anything bad! Glad she is happy and healthy :)

Surgery
Our gorgeous pup Jessie had to have surgery this morning. Barney noticed a growth on her lip a few days ago so I took her to the vet to get it checked out. The vet said it needed to be taken out as soon as possible so Jessie had it removed this morning.
(Medication Free/Normal with Dorothy the Dinasour:) )
I might just add that Jessie loves the vet. She runs to the door and tries to push it open. I think she just loves seeing other dogs and getting lots of attention!
They were able to burn off the lump instead of cutting her open which was great (and saved us a few hundred dollars). It will heal quite well this way and she didn't need stitches. The lump was sent off to get tested for disease, including cancer which is apparently common around the mouths of dogs since cells mulitply quicker there.
(Highly medicated and drowsy)
We picked her up this afternoon and boy was she groggy. The vet said when she came out of sedation, she just started howling. She also said that she is a great dog, which we know already of course :)
She's been sleeping since we brought her home but never wants to be alone. If we leave her alone on her bed and leave the room, she'll cry until we come to see her. She just wants some love and cuddles! Yes, she is very spoiled!!
Hopefully she will be back to normal tomorrow so we can go to the beach tomorrow. I have the weekend off (a first in ages!) and I can't wait :)

Familiar Faces
It was so great to have people from Canada come visit me! Peter has been my brothers best friend since they were pretty much born. I'm also friends with Peters younger brother Daniel, who is my age.
Peter and his wife Sarah have been traveling around Australia for the last 2 years and this past week made it to Port Stephens! They stayed here for two nights and it was great to show them around the area. Barney and I both had to work both nights but I think they enjoyed just hanging out and watching TV on the lounge since they've been living in a van for 2 years.
We 'hiked' up our local hill to see the beautiful views and happened to spot a shark lurking on the waters edge at the beach we got married on. I've never seen a shark here so it was exciting! I can't say I wil be doing any swimming down there any time soon!!
We had a great time together and it was refreshing to have friends from Canada here!
Our door is always welcome if anyone wants to come to Australia ;)

Homemade Pizza
We love making our own pizza around here. Barney always makes the pizza sauce from scratch and we freeze half of the batch. We use wholewheat pita bread for the base and just add whatever toppings we have around the house.
Yesterday it was chorizo, ham, cheese, mushrooms and spring onions. Yum! I can only eat 3/4 of one of these pizzas so I just add toppings on 3/4's of it. Barney wasn't around to help me eat it all. Bake it in the oven at 180 Celcius for about 20-25 minutes or until golden and enjoy!!
