Lazy Day

It's a rainy and cold day so what better to do than stay in our pj's, curl up on the lounge and watch a movie. Or in Barney and Jessie's case, fall back asleep.

I love these kind of days.

Country and Surf

Whats been going on lately? Well, last week Sunday we went to a country music show. We saw the McClymonts which would be an Australian version of the Dixie Chicks. I actually quite enjoyed the show even tho I'm not the biggest fan of country music. Barney won free tickets from the radio so we went! Last Tuesday night, Barney and I went to a Surf Film Festival. It was held at a place called Lizottes which is an old movie theatre. The balcony seating is from the old theatre and the stage floor seating has been transformed into a restaurant. We sat on the bottom, had a beautiful meal and got to enjoy a few surf films.

The films were crazy! I cannot believe what surfers can do. Some of the waves were in Tahiti and were 70-80ft high. Insane!! I have a huge appreciation for surfers who tackle the ocean like they do. The ocean's power always amazes me and I have learned to respect otherwise you can get yourself into serious trouble.

Speaking of surfing, Barney surfed twice yesterday and got up at 5am this morning to surf before work. The wind and swell have both been good, creating good surfing conditions. Needless to say he's been a happy man!

I'm doing well. I have booked my flights to go home to Canada in August and I can't wait. Barney wasn't originally going to join me but he is now. He will be coming for about 10 days and I will be there for over 3 weeks! We are both very excited to see my family, celebrate with Matthew and Heather as they get married and to meet all the new babies in the family. There will be 3 new ones for me to meet!! Barney's parents have sold their home in Byron Bay so we will be going up there in May to visit, enjoy Byron and help bring some stuff back down with us. They aren't moving until September so we hope to make it up there a few times before they move. That's about all from here! I have thrown in sime pictures of a few storms we had because I don't have any other recent photos to enjoy. And to finish, a picture of Jessie, who really wanted my chocolate easter egg. Wishful thinking Jess! :)

This and That

My 5 days off have come to a sad end and now its back to work. For 10 days straight. Lucky me!

My days off have been fabulous so I can't complain. On Tuesday, Barney and I decided to try surfing. He bought me a board a while ago from a garage sale so we finally took it out.

The ocean and me aren't really friends so it took a lot for me to get out in the waves but I'm so glad I did! I had a blast. I never stood up and I liked bodyboarding better but we still had a lot of fun. We were out there for 2 hours! We brought Jessie with us and she just sat on the beach and swam. Everytime we would catch a wave and come closer to shore, she would jump in the water to meet us. Did I mention we had the beach to ourselves? Yup. It was a perfect afternoon.

I tried getting my flights home sorted out this morning but didn't end up booking. Hopefully I can get things organize soon because August will be here before we know it.

A long, long day

On Sunday my friend Yui invited me to go swimming with the dolphins so we went! Yui is from Japan and is a marine biologist. She works on the dolphin boats to study their behaviour and also works with me at the resort!

We were up at 4:30am to get on the boat and hit the water.




The first pod we ran into had about 20 dolphins in it and mostly consisted of females and their young. We weren't allowed to get in the water with them as the mothers were teaching the babies to get comfortable with the boat.



The second pod we ran into was smaller, about 10-12 dolphins and mostly males. It was then we got to go in the water for a swim. As the boat moves, you hang on to a rope at the front, put your head in the water and watch them swim with you! YOu have a mask and a snorkel to breathe.



THe first time I went in, I was fine. I was breathing rapidly but loved the experience of being underwater with the dolphins as they swim within arms length with you.



The second time I went in, the boat moved much faster so I kept getting water down my snorkel and ended up swallowing a lot of salt water. Not pleasant to say the least!



The day before they had a pod of 100+ dolphins so we missed out on those numbers but still saw a lot! They are such beautiful creatures and it was amazing to see them so close and to hear them call to each other.

After the dolphin swim, I had to go straight to a baby shower. My car broke down so I had to ride my back that had low tires. I was exhausted by the time I got to the shower.

Barney picked me up from the shower so I didn't have to ride my bike back :) From there we went to the beach. We went down the sand tracks that can only be done by a 4 Wheel Drive. Long story short, about 5-6 cars got bogged in the sand because it was so soft. We were one of them and had to dig for over an hour to get the cars out!

My day didn't end there! We had to then tow my car to the mechanics but my car could only be attached from the back so Barney towed me backwards to the mechanic. Good times!

By the time we got home, all I wanted to do was go to bed, but we managed to make dinner and relax before hitting the pillow at 8pm.

It was a long, exhausting day but worth it. Needless to say, my body is so sore today! So now, I relax, get my hair done and have a nap :)
