A Year Later...

On March 16th, 2010 I woke up knowing that I would be engaged before I fell asleep that night. Barney was visiting from Australia and it was his last day there so surely he had to. Later that evening by the warm fire, he expressed his love for me and asked me to be his wife. I said "of course".

A year later standing under the warm sun I said "I do".

I couldn't have asked for a better wedding day. I woke up around 8:30 in an appartment over looking the local marina and the beautiful ocean. My maid of honour Stefanie and I walked to the local coffee shop and grabbed our breakfast. We returned to the appartment, sat on the deck, soaked in the morning sun and sipped our coffee. A beautiful peaceful morning.

With the fear of sunburn on our minds, we went inside and decided to change the mood. On went the TV to the music channels. An Usher marathon was on. Perfect for dancing we thought, so what did we do? We danced. We tried to learn Ushers famous dance moves all while loudly laughing. It was great fun.

Shortly after Barney dropped by (!) to drop off a few things, than he helped our hairdresser lug her stuff up the stairs. Yes we saw each other before the wedding took place but considering that we're already legally married, we weren't too bothered by breaking tradition. He than left and I got my hair done. Stefanie got hers done while I drove out to pick up my mom so she could come back and take photos of us getting ready and just hang out with the girls. When we returned I got my make up done, Summer (our niece) got her hair done than we were all set to go. I went down to Subway to have some lunch and ran into Barney's family so I chatted to them a bit than headed back up the appartment.

After lunch it was go time. The flowers were delivered, the hair and makeup ladies left and we got dressed and ready to go. I got the call that the car was outside waiting for us so off we went! We headed to an area called Fly Point to start off our photos than it was off to the ceremony. We arrived early so we were outside chatting to some guests and family. Completely not traditional but oh well! We sent everyone down to the beach and so the ceremony begun.

We got married at 5pm so the lighting of the sun was perfect. It was magical. The sun going down, the acoustic guitar being played, our closest friends and family and my husband waiting for me at the end of the sandy aisle. Perfect.

Our vows we spoke to each other:

You are my best friend.
Today I give myself to you in marriage.
I promise to encourage and inspire you.
To laugh with you and to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle.
I promise to love you in good times and in bad,
when life seems easy and when it seems hard,
when our love is simple, and when it is an effort.
I promise to cherish you and respect you.
These things I give to you today, and all the days of our life.
I love you.

Following the ceremony we had family photos, more wedding party photos than headed to the reception. I spare the details of the reception but it was great food, great people, great music, hilarious speeches and a whole lot of fun. And of course, I danced. I even managed to get Barney to dance!

The whole day was fabulous. I was calm and relaxed the entire day minus about 5 minutes when I first got dressed. Everything came together wonderfully and we are so happy.

Thanks to everyone for all of their love, support and well wishes!!!

Our third and final wedding celebration is in Vancouver in July! We'relooking forward to being back and seeing our friends and family!
