We have just returned from our trip to Phuket and we had a lovely time! Travelling will never be the same now that we have a baby but I'm still glad we went.
We decided to drive to Sydney the day before to break up our trip and stayed at a cheap hotel by the airport. The walls were paper thin so we didn't get much sleep. We got to the airport and for some reason couldn't issue our tickets so we had to wait at check in for an hour before getting our boarding passes. Thankfully Myles just fell asleep on my shoulder while we waited.
(Thank goodness for bassinets on the plane!)
Myles did great on the first flight to Bangkok. He had three naps, the first 2.5 hours, then 1.5 hours then 45 minutes. He cried a total of 10 minutes maximum on the whole flight which was such a blessing. We had a short layover and he fell asleep just before boarding our next flight and woke up before taking off. He screamed during take off as he wouldn't take his dummy or nurse. He eventually fell asleep just before landing and screamed on the way down too. Not fun. By this point he was getting very tired and couldn't manage a long enough sleep. We collected our bags and got in the van for an hour drive to the hotel. He was so overtired as it was passed his bedtime and he screamed in the van for about 45 minutes before finally falling asleep, lying on his tummy across Barneys lap.
We checked in and all went straight to bed. Myles would sleep a four hour stretch to start every night then be up every hour after that. Thankfully he napped really well during the day or it would have been an exhausting week!
We didn't go far from our resort. We explored the local streets and markets a lot and just relaxed. One day we went over to the next town to explore a bit and one day we went to a gibbon rehabilitation centre.
These gibbons were mostly used in the tourist trade, often made to smoke and drink alcohol just so tourists could get a good picture. Some even had their teeth taken out so they wouldn't hurt the tourists. It's really sad. One gibbon had to have 2 limbs amputated and one gibbon was bulimic. So, we decided to adopt in a gibbon in Myles's name. I know he doesn't understand but it's nice to teach him young. He adopted a cutie named Brittany who is set to be released in the next two years.
There was a waterfall close the gibbon centre so we went for a walk to see that too. It was so humid but Myles somehow slept really well in the heat. He was such a trooper the whole trip.
Myles even had a ride in a tuk tuk! I think he knew he wasn't in a car seat because he held on to my fingers really tight for the 10 minute ride.
Barney had 3 half day conferences which was perfect. We were still able to do a lot as a family.
Bath time in the sink! He had at least 2 baths a day due to being so sweaty. Half the time he just wore a diaper because it was so hot.
On the second last day Barney had the morning off, so I booked myself into the spa! I had a 2.5 hour salt treatment. First I had a jacuzzi, then a salt scrub then an one hour and 40 minute massage. She destroyed my back in a good way! I love a firm massage and boy did she deliver and she was about half of my size! At the end she even French braided my hair really nice. I had pumped a bottle but Myles didn't take it. He apparently cried for 45 minutes before finally falling asleep for daddy.
The last night we had a group dinner and it was a dress up party. We were given a budget of 300 baht or ten dollars and had to dress as a Thai theme. We didn't dress up but got Myles some thai boxing shorts and he was so cute. He ended up tying for first place with a man wearing a bikini. I'll spare you the pictures of that!
We had a great trip home and Myles did wonderfully. I ended up giving him some panadol on the way home because I wanted him to have a good sleep as it was a red eye flight. He slept 4.5 hours straight in his bassinet on the plane :)
We were exhausted by the time we got home and we all had a 3 hour nap together. Thankfully Myles is back to sleeping well at home!
Our bags are temporarily unpacked until next weekend then we are off to Canada! That trip will be even longer but at least we know what to expect now. We will see you all soon!
