Myles' First ER Visit

Some days require staying home in our jammies and playing in the yard... there may have been more than one of those days this past week!

(This kid loves to mow the lawn)

On Thursday night Myles woke up at 11pm with a fever, breathing really quickly and is heart was racing. We called the local community hospital and they told us to call an on-call doctors service. We spoke to a doctor who recommended we take Myles to the community hospital. We got there around 12:30 and thankfully there was no one else in the waiting room.

Myles was quickly assessed and brought into a treatment room. The doctor confirmed the fever and had him hooked up to a machine to keep an eye on his heart rate. He was given paracetamol and steroids to reduce his heart rate and breathing rate. These didn't seem to work very well, so he was given ibuprofen. They were about to hook him up to a IV because he wasn't drinking much, but I asked if I could give him a bottle of milk to see if he would drink that. He chugged his bottle and didn't have to have an IV!

His levels still weren't regulating so they were about to transfer us to the big hospital an hour away to see a specialist. The doctor was about to make the call when all the numbers on the monitor starting dropping. His breathing slowed and his body cooled down quickly. Ten minute later and 3 hours after we arrived, we were discharged! Myles was awake from 11-3am and as soon as we put him in bed, he was out cold. He slept in until 8am.

We saw the doctor the next morning (after a tearful plea to get us an appointment even though they were fully booked) and based on Myles' cough and the night in the ER, he suspected Myles would have bronchiolitis. He thought it was the beginning as his airways were still clear and would get a lot worse, but thankfully after a lot of prayer, his health improved dramatically! He still isn't himself 100% but he is nearly better.

This was our third trip to hospital in the last couple months (twice for me, once for Myles) and I'm praying it is the last for a very long time!

I am so grateful for a good health care system and a hospital 10 minutes down the road.

I love our little man so much and am very glad he is feeling better!
